Every 4 years since 1957, this event is organised in the Principality of Monaco by the Studio de Monaco under the High Patronage of the Prince of Monaco and receives the support and the actual help of the Princely Government.

The last edition of the Mondial took place in August 2017.  The festival village was located in the Auditorium Rainier III, exclusively reserved for the Mondial festival. All arrangements for this event are enthrusted to an Organisasing Comittee of over of 150 volunteers.

Since 1952, AITA/IATA asbl, the International Amateur Theatre Association gathers amateur theatre groups from all over the world.  Since 1957, the Mondial du Théâtre, World Festival for Amateur Theatre, is an official event of AITA/IATA asbl. During the Mondial, AITA/IATA asbl organises its World Forum and General Assembly.
