We are sorry to learn of the passing of former AITA/IATA Secretary General, Pru Kitching. Her funeral will take place on 23 March 2026 in Tyneside, UK.
Pru trained for the theatre and shared her life with painter and stage designer Gerald Kitching. After his death in 1989, she moved to Copenhagen where she served as Secretary General of IATA. During this time she travelled widely, supporting and connecting amateur theatre communities around the world, and wrote extensively about her experiences.
In later years Pru lived in Upper Weardale in the North Pennines, UK. Alongside her work in theatre, she was also a poet. Her first poetry pamphlet, All Aboard the Moving Staircase (Vane Women Press, 2004), was followed by The Kraków Egg (Arrowhead Press, 2008).
Pru will be remembered for her dedication to theatre, her curiosity about the world, and her creative voice. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who knew her.
