Lingen 2018

General Assembly

AITA/IATA asbl, the International Amateur Theatre Association gathers amateur theatre groups, including children and youth groups from over the world. The association offers them the possibility to gather every other year during either the World or International Amateur Theatre Fesitval for Children and/or Youth.

The 34th AITA/IATA asbl General Assembly was held 28 June 2018 during the Welt Kindertheater Festival in Lingen (Ems), Germany.

For the first time in its history, AITA/IATA asbl held a yearly General Assembly complying with legal requirements.

No elections were held at the Lingen General Assembly. Following the resignation of the members of the Standing Committee for Children and Youth, the two AITA/IATA Councillors involved in children and youth theatre, Harald Volker Sommer and Christel Gbaguidi will be the responsible contacts for the near future with regard to children and youth issues.  They will prepare a strategic plan that will be presented to Council at the fall meeting of 2018.

Members decided to merge the previous constitution, the old Byelaws and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly into a new constitutional text.  The proposals can be found HERE published in the three General Assembly books, one for each language.

The approved Proposal 2 solves the existing inconsistencies and adds simplifications. It includes the removal of the Affiliate Membership category. With the ability to research a prospective member online, and to assess their suitability for membership, this category is no longer considered necessary. In addtiion, inconsistencies of terminology between the current situation in the organisation and the current constitution - such as 'nation, 'country' and 'self-governing territories' have been removed. Each member still has 6 votes in the GA.

Further information on the renewed membership system can be found HERE.
